On Saturday, February 23, 2019, we volunteered by inspecting and refereeing a VEX U World Championship qualifier at California State University at Northridge. Participating schools included CSUN (the longest running VEX U program in SoCal), USC, UC Berkeley, and Arizona State University among others.

VEX U is of course the VEX collegiate level robotics competition and differs from the high school EDR division mainly by requiring a 45 second autonomous rather than the 15 second autonomous at the high school level. Also, VEX U teams usually compete in pairs, and build robots of varying sizes per the VEX U rules.

The competition was intense as the teams were all vying for a bid at the VEX U World Championship in April 2019. USC (former Nerd Herd players) ended up winning the tournament and CSUN grabbed the Excellence Award. We look forward to seeing both teams at Worlds in April.
